Fan Power

25 Years. Thousands of Fans. One Incredible Journey.

Face wouldn’t be Face without the people who have shown up, spread the word, brought their friends, supported our music, and shared their own stories with us.

In this month's Face: Reflections & Resonance, we talk about the incredible power of the Face community and the unforgettable moments that remind us just how much this music can mean. We’re also sharing some of your favorite Face memories from the past 25 years!

The long version of the story is probably more than anyone needs or wants to know, but let’s just say that I have personal ties to the mission of the Colorado Children’s Chorale (CCC). I had two sons go through the Chorale, and given Stephen’s alum status, the CCC kept us informed of goings-on as FVB solidified as a bona fide group. This includes the appearance on “The Sing Off” and co-performances with the Chorale. My first real FVB concert was at the Arvada Center. It must have been about 2012, sharing the stage with CCC. This was my younger son’s final CCC performance, as he voiced out a year early; my older son was a “grad” at the performance. Seeing this live performance of Face, we were hooked. From that moment, my husband and I sought performances. The first couple of performances at Red Rocks resulted in raising money for local music programs, and in no time we realized that this is just one example of what a wonderful, selfless, kind, funny, and talented group of folks I was following. When COVID hit, and we realized that Face putting on concerts, and us attending concerts was going to be a challenge, we became Patreon members.

Favorite concerts include any House concert, an intimate COVID-era concert on the rooftop of the Boulder museum, a COVID-era concert tailgating in a parking lot, and a concert at Leavitt Pavilion where we endured a hailstorm. Post-hailstorm, we were rewarded with a serenade by the guitarist, up-close-and-personal, and the full Face concert (at least I think it was the full Face concert, lol)!

BTW, that bar in “The Parting Glass" video is just icing on the cake. Not only does my husband absolutely love that song, but when we moved to Louisville in 1990, The “Old Louisville Inn” was a Mexican restaurant being run by an awesome older couple. We loved it there, and it was our first introduction in life to spicy food, green chili, and smothered burritos. They were called flautas on the menu - we don’t know why, but we really didn’t know the difference back then. The bar inside that restaurant has always told a story. We loved that historic bar then, and still love it today.

Love you always!

Wow, it’s really hard for me to write about all the memories! So many wonderful, so many meaningful!

I was a member of Kickstarter, and then Patreon after that. I think I became a “picnic” member in 2022.

I saw you many times at various outdoor venues in 2008 and beyond , but the one most memorable was at Rich Bobic’s 60th Bday party in 2011. I had mentioned it was happening to my daughter, Stephanie, and she said “tell Forest I said hi!”. The rest is history- ask Forest. From that wonderful, intimate 🎂 party, I was hooked. My dear sweetest friend Pat Bobic was very ill with cancer. The guys sang Calling All Angels. I will NEVER forget that!
Face guys know my memory of Parting Glass, as I was sitting with my husband at the Rialto just 17 days before he passed. And I included that song and Standing Outside the Fire in the tape for his Celebration of Life. He and I attended so many of Face performances, and the terrific private show at Rich and Joanie’s wedding reception! Outstanding!

My most fave songs are, of course, Calling All Angels, Let it Be (I listen to this a lot!) Parting Glass, and Wicked Game. Thank you so much for ALL the talent!

We saw Face for the first time at the Louisville Community Park in June 2017, and we became Patreon members in May 2019. We have loved supporting the guys (especially through Covid), getting to know them all a little better through chats at Patreon picnics and such, and really feeling like we're part of something bigger than ourselves. The Patreon community is a wonderful group of people, and it's always such fun to go to a show and see so many familiar faces!

I first saw and heard you guys in Denver years ago for a Christmas show and was blown away. I saw you one time after that too. But one of the last times you were at Nissi’s I invited my sister and she accepted. Long story short, our relationship has been strained for decades. Not only did she love the show, but it brought us closer (we’re both in our 70s). Love you guys!

“Pick Your Head Up” is part of my Spirit-Lifting Playlist; I’ve shared it with a number of friends, just because its message about self-criticism is so popular.
As I’ve said before, my first Face concert was at a St. Vrain Valley School District event to honor teachers. The showpiece was your cover of Marc Broussard’s “Home”, which inspired several members of the audience to do a conga line around the room at swamp-stomp tempo. That’s when I knew I was in the presence of magic. Whenever I needed to introduce a new person to Face, “Home” (track 1 on Forward) always did the trick.

My favorite memory? Honestly, every time I’ve attended with Missy, our developmentally-disabled ward. The music supercharges her and she has always been treated so well by the band AND the fans, who seem to have deep wells of patience and kindness. You are her favorite band ever (and it’s not even close!) and I know some of that is from her constant warm welcome by the Face family.

I will never forget the Caribbean Cruise I took with you, the most fun I have had in a long long time. We need to do it again!

We first learned about Face through Kathy Daniel, Anderson’s mother. We had lived in Tahlequah for 15 years and watched Anderson grow up, and knew how talented he is. We have been at Christmas shows and the shows at Stargazers every time you have performed in the Springs. We love you all and are so thankful we can see you each time you come south.

A favorite memory I have is all the times I met you over the years.

I first saw you at Pikes Peak center when you were the opening act with Home Free. I have a friend name Cindy Markham who told me about you because she grew up in Canada where Stephen Ross is from. In Denver, I remember when Cody Qualls fell off the stage in the middle of the show. Love all the show you guys do in winter months in Colorado Springs for Xmas time. The song that helps me through my life is the Rainbow Connection because you brought my friend I lost contact with for so many years and now we are great friends. Thank you for helping me reconnect with her. Hallelujah is a great song for many different reasons, too many to count. THANK YOU FOR MAKING YOUR MUSIC THE BEST FOR ME. Love you all.

My first FACE band concert was in 2008 at Clement Park. As we approached I could hear the sound of instruments, and I said to my wife Traci, well that’s not them. It was them, and that amazing sound has been so good to hear and listen to!

My first FACE concert was in Sweden 2023. 2022 was a tough year when I lost my singing voice and left my choir after Covid. I also lost the joy of going to concerts with other choirs and groups. But your show in Norrköping was a magical moment! Amazing singing/beatboxing and so much energy and fun. You brought back the happiness of listening to a capella music and that meant so much for me 🎶🙏❤️! Best memory, having the possibility to thank you all live after the show in Luleå in May 🥰

My very first show was when my friends Lyn and Rob McCaleb took me to a sold out holiday show in 2018. Even from the back row of the balcony at the Boulder Theater I was mesmerized. They talked about having a choir as part of the Face Academy of Music and I signed up! Then Covid hit and we pivoted to an amazing virtual choir. Post-Covid, I have been singing along with Face at many many many Face shows ever since!!! Every show is a happy “Facelift”!

How can I pick a favorite? I have loved every single concert. But I especially enjoy the smaller ones when I can sit up close and get a chance to talk to the guys and their wonderful staff before or after the concert. You all are amazing and bring me so much joy!

Kacy Thompson

I loved singing with you on World Singing Day on the Boulder Mall!
