Wait… We Have Fans Where…?!
The international adventures of Face over the last 25 years!
Believe it or not, there was a time when the idea of Face traveling overseas felt completely impossible.
Fast forward 25 years, and we have performed across Europe, Australia, cruise ships, and beyond - thanks to incredible fans, amazing supporters, and a whole lot of saying “yes” before knowing how anything would work out.
This month, we’re telling the stories behind the passports, plane rides, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable moments that made the world feel a whole lot smaller.
We’ve also included tons of fan memories, photos, and even a few videos from along the way, making this one of the most personal 25th Email Experiences yet!
I was working as the manager for The Real Group and got an e-mail from Cody in Face. It was kind of a ”spammy, copy-paste looking e-mail”, but I could also see that it was a real one and so I dared to click on the link ”Here is what we sound like”. Face started singing ”How Was the Show Last Night” and the video really captured the joy both on stage and in the audience. For me it was kind of a love at first sight. I needed to get them to Sweden.
Face had done a successful fundraiser and needed places to play at. Unfortunately, The Real Group were busy doing concerts in Italy when Face was coming to visit. That is when I decided to offer to produce two concerts in my hometown Piteå and the city nearby - Luleå. The financial risk was low, since Face offered to pay for the travels overseas. However it is really hard to sell a concert with totally unknown artists. Especially in August. I needed Face to help me help them.
The band Euskefeurat started in Piteå in 1977 and they had made a song called Kvad’n or ”Nere vid Piteälva”. I asked Face to learn the song, record a greeting video and make sure to talk about ice hockey and tell the audience how much they love the special food that comes from Piteå - palt (which is basically a kind of potato dumpling with lingonberries). The guys did that. We posted the video and it went viral locally and although no one really expected it - there was a big crowd coming in both Piteå and Skellefteå. People wanted to come and see who these guys were.
After the concert I was in the lobby and people came up and shook my hand and really thanked me personally for bringing Face to Sweden. They also wanted me to admit that the drums were recorded… because there is no way someone can beatbox like that, right…?! I told them - Mark can…!
I can’t remember if I served them palt to try on their first visit, but I know that they have tried the real thing later. They’ve also tried reindeer, moose and of course lots of Swedish meatballs!
It is always a joy to have them come visit and tour. In 2026 they’re now back for the 6th time. First time in August 2015. Time flies!
Face told me a few days before they were coming to Sweden that they were thinking about recording a music video for "O Holy Night" and they asked for suggestions on where to film it. They wanted it to look "not American".
Oh and also - it would be great if there was snow...?!
Even though it was the middle of November (2016) there was still no snow when they arrived in Luleå for their concert there. The following day was a show in Piteå, and the recording of the music video was going to happen in the morning after the first show. When the show started in Luleå there was no snow outside... but when the concert finished and we came out from the venue - it was all white outside! The guys were in shock... YOU MADE IT SNOW?!?!
There wasn't a lot, but it was more than the day before... The video was recorded just outside of Piteå in Öjebyn church town. With the old stone church from around 1500 visible in the background.
